Free Blog Installations
The quickest and easiest way to get started online is with a blog. I highly recommend both WordPress and the Thesis theme. You don’t have to get Thesis but if you are going to get started online you will need web hosting and a Word Press blog installed. Let’s face it – Blogger and Typepad are so 2003! It is time to move on and build your own asset.
So here is how this works:
You need a self hosted blog. By this I mean a blog hosted at a domain like www.loseyourchains.net or www.yourcoolblog.com. You don’t need a blog hosted on a service like www.typepad.loseyourchains.com or blogspot.yourcoolblog.com.
So you are going to need 2 things – a domain name and web hosting.
Once you have these everything else is cream cheese…especially since I am going to install the blog for you. How nice am I?
I am going to give you 2 options for web hosting. You must purchase ONE of these 2 options and you must click over to the web host of your choice from a link on this page. You can choose either Bluehost or HostGator. There are a couple of minor differences we’ll take a look at in a second.
First, why you must click over from a link on this page:
When you click over to either HostGator or Bluehost, from my link, and sign up for their services, I will get a commission. This commission is the reason I will install your blog for free. Ah, maybe I am not so nice, after all?
Oh c’mon this is a win for everybody. You get what you need, a brandy new blog, hosted on its own domain and fully installed with WordPress and ready for you tell the world what you really think! BH or HG get a new customer and I get a little bit of dough for bringing it all together AND installing the thing for you.
Here is the thing…..I use both Bluehost and HostGator. They are good services! I could find web hosting with higher commissions. I DO NOT want to do that. I want you to like me (please, please) and I want you to want me or something like that.
No Seriously, I use both these products and have recommended them to friends. I don’t want to recommend junk to you because I want you to trust me and stick around my blog.
Now that that is out of the way (I love using that that consecutively and correctly in the same sentence) let’s move on to the small differences.
1. BlueHost – Is a little bit cheaper than HostGator but you need to pay for a full year today. Its like $81 dollars to host your domain for 12 months. That is like 81 divided by 12 to host your blog each month. That is dirt cheap! Another great thing about BlueHost is that they will let you register a domain for free! Who said that nothing in this life is free. Shit, you’re about to get a free domain and a free blog installation here. Maybe you should be telling all your friends and family…they will love you for it! Everyone loves a frugalista who shares!
2. Hostgator – Hostgator has a few different options available running as cheap as $6.95 a month (is that less than 81/12 ?) But you will have to register your domain at a place like godaddy.com or namecheap.com. You will then have to move your DNS to point to HostGator. It’s no big deal but it does add a couple of extra steps and takes some time (up to 48 hours) to complete. But if you can’t handle $81 right now, the namecheap.com, hostgator.com…1,2 punch will help you out.
Choose your poison, either one will work for me.
Once your have purchased either HostGator or BlueHost web hosting (through my link) email me your receipt and you log-in details. Don’t worry about sending me your log in details. Make them as innocuous as possible and change them when I am done. It’s not like I am an ax murderer or anything (Yet!). And there is no personal info inside your site (Yet).
Once you send me that stuff and I verify that you purchased the webhosting through my link I will install your blog, get you set up and give you a quick tutorial on how to use the WordPress Dashboard.
If you want to really trick out your site and leave it room to grow and improve as your skills do then I HIGHLY recommend checking out the Thesis theme from DIY Themes.
Thesis has totally changed the way the world blogs and keeps getting better all the time. DIY has excellent support and active forums to help you along the way. If you are serious about this whole blogging thing you should seriously at least look into Thesis.
If you decide to buy Thesis then send that to me too and I will install the world’s best theme into your brandy new blog.
Any questions?
No?
Then get started here…..Bluehost , HostGator , Thesis
I am looking forward to hooking you up and us helping each other out!
